Types Of Ceramic, Porcelain & Vitrified Tiles

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are made from natural clay, sand, and water, shaped and then fired in a kiln. They are one of the oldest and most widely used tile types.

Composition

  • Red or white clay base

  • Minerals (feldspar, quartz, silica)

  • Glazed or unglazed surface

Glazed Ceramic Tiles :

Coated with a liquid glass layer (glaze) and fired again; available in glossy, matte, or textured finishes.

Unglazed Ceramic Tiles :

No surface coating; natural earthy look; more slip-resistant.

Wall Tiles :

Lightweight, thin tiles for vertical applications.

Floor Tiles :

Thicker and more durable than wall tiles.

Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain is a type of ceramic tile but made with finer, denser clay and fired at higher temperatures, making it more durable and less porous.

Composition

  • Refined white clay (kaolin)

  • Silica and feldspar

  • Fired at 1200–1400°C

Glazed Porcelain Tiles :

Surface coated with a colored glaze; available in digital prints and textures.

Full-Body Porcelain Tiles :

Uniform color and pattern throughout; chips less visible.

Double-Charged Porcelain Tiles :

Two layers of pigment fused under high pressure, giving thicker design layer (3–4 mm).

Polished Porcelain Tiles :

Mechanically polished for a glossy finish.

Vitrified Tiles

Vitrified tiles are one of the most popular modern flooring materials — known for their strength, glossy finish, low porosity, and wide design range.
They are an advanced version of ceramic tiles, made using a process called vitrification, which creates a glass-like surface that is extremely hard and durable.

Full Body Vitrified Tiles :

Color and pattern run through the entire tile thickness.

Double Charged Vitrified Tiles :

Two layers of pigment (~3–4 mm thick) are fused during manufacturing.

Glazed Vitrified Tiles (GVT) :

Have a glazed (glass-like) coating on top that allows digital printing.

Nano Polished Vitrified Tiles :

GVT tiles coated with a layer of nano-silica for a smoother, glossy surface.
